Face Your Fear – Be Inspired by J K Rowling

The Inspiring J K Rowling

We’ve just read that Harry Potter author, J K Rowling has announced the title of her new book – “The Casual Vacancy“. Let’s explain why this is important and why it should inspire you to step outside your comfort zone and whatever is holding you back right now.

Harry Potter by J K Rowling

Her saga of Harry Potter, the boy wizard became one of the most successful fictional series in history and led to a series of extremely popular films and made her a very wealthy woman. In fact Forbes has named her as the first person to become a U.S. dollar billionaire by writing books. That’s some achievement. Now she is moving into a new area of writing with the launch of her new book later this year.

BUT …. it wasn’t always like that for J K Rowling

…. Less than five years ago she was living on social security and struggling to bring up her daugher, was diagnosed with clinical depression and contemplated suicide. Even after graduating from university Rowling saw herself as “the biggest failure I knew.” Her marriage had failed, she was jobless with a dependent child ….

Does that sound familiar. Can you relate to that? Have you ever failed and not wanted to get started again?

“I have decided to talk to you about the benefits of failure. And as you stand on the threshold of what is sometimes called ‘real life’, I want to extol the crucial importance of imagination.”

“Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy to finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one area where I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter, and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life”.
